The perils of sleeping in church

Have you ever slept in church? When I was in Bible College my wife would only wake me when I started to snore OR when I started to drift off my chair. That is the topic of the blog today.

It has been said that some leave church greatly encouraged and some leave greatly refreshed. The young man Eutychus in Acts 20 had a unique experience. He heard a great preacher, slept, fell, died, ate, heard a great preacher, and saw the sun come up, all at one church service.

Paul preached for a long time. The brethren (and sistern) listened to him faithfully. It was crowded with much ambient heat from the people. Heat rises and those who climbed into the third loft fortunately found a seat on the windowsill. One of the young men nodded off. He nodded off the windowsill and fell. I am sure the family of this young man was heartbroken and many were dismayed.

The boy’s life came to him and can you imagine the joy and laughter and shouts that happened when this boy stood up and they wiped the blood off of him. This is another time where I hope the LORD has instant replay.
