GOD IS A CONSERVATIVE - Part 8b
In the last blog I covered some cultural things that seem logical and reasonable but that people miss. In that blog I said, “I do not think all Christian women who wear pants are sinful. I do think they are in error. We have the freedom to disagree.” This is accurate and equitable. We have the right to our opinions and this is an important issue. It also follows that certain standards follow in churches where the ladies wear dresses.
What does God say about clothing?
In Deuteronomy 22:5 the Word says, “The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman's garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the LORD thy God.” -
This “abomination” is placed within the midst of many social concerns for the Jew. Things like helping your brother with his ox, being a good steward with a game bird, planting, and the wearing of mixed apparel. Only the cross-dressing is listed as an “abomination unto the LORD thy God.” The others are however rules that place the Jew apart from the heathen. They are listed as a matter of separation.
Basically the woman was to dress differently from a man. Some will say that everyone wore the same dresses back then. If this is so why did God waste the space. The fact is that man’s clothing and women’s clothing was and should be different.
We can go back to the beginning of women wearing pants. The fashion began during the last century’s feminist movement. It happened because of several reasons, some but not all of which were sexual. David Cloud has written: “the growth in the popularity of pants on females in Western culture was part and parcel with the sexual revolution and the unisex phenomenon.” Pants on ladies were in no wise as sexually motivated as the mini-skirt. There are carnal Christians who defend the wearing of minis. I am not suggesting women who wear pants are carnal. Not even a little bit. I am suggesting they are wrong.
About the history thing, we must be careful here because in this case the history is not important.
If we dwell upon the history of an article of clothing we will crash and burn. In the late 1800s the wristwatch was a woman’s accessory. During the turn of the century the men who wore wristwatches publicly probably wore dresses privately. Men avoided feminine fashions and used pocket watches. It was not until W.W.I that real men (Yes I said that) begin to wear wristwatches. It was a military thing.
David Cloud also writes, “When jeans makers advertise their wares for women, what do they emphasize? Jeans are portrayed as the party girl fashion, as something-worldly guys love because of what they can see. Pants draw attention to parts of the female body that should be de-emphasized by a modest woman. For our part, we are convinced that a proper dress is always more feminine and modest than a pair of pants and that a modest dress sets forth a godly standard in a confused world.”
To this I can say Amen.
I was at a hospital yesterday and the gender difference on the restroom doors make it obvious that pants are male and dresses are female. For those who want to use the, “in the old days” argument we need to consider the year is 2007 and certain fashions are looked upon in the USA as only women and certain as only male.
Pants can be modest and decent ladies can wear them. I think it is an error tough. Eventually this standard will become totally accepted. I compare this to the loss of the word gay. I remember hearing preachers say they would not give up that word to perversion. They now call queers gay because queer is considered crass and gay is the accepted word. I hate that we lost that good word to the world.
Immodest pants and immodest behavior is unacceptable. One good example of the carnalizing of Christian standards would be those who wear Christian swim suits. They wear women’s suits that show the leg from the buttocks to the toe and from the neck down to the cleavage. “But they are one piece and therefore modest,” they cry. To them I say, “Madam you do not understand how your husband and sons think.” Go back to your Bible and find where nakedness begins and learn something of how God created men and women different sexually.
Different parts of the world have different allowable standards. It is a step of maturity and sacrifice for a lady to say, “I do not believe in mixed swimming and will not swim with men outside of my immediate family.” It is also a step of maturity and sacrifice for a woman to say, “I will wear dresses and not pants and teach my children the same.”
“But people will think I’m weird”, they say. Yup, my wife has had to put up with men treating her differently all her adult life after she begin wearing modest dresses. They treat her like a lady.
GOD IS A CONSERVATIVE AND WANTS WOMEN TO WEAR DRESSES AND DRESS MODESTLY.

Proud to say that my Pastor still calls 'em queers from the pulpit. YAY, PREACHER!
You're right though. Too many of our Pastors have backed off "offensive words." Well, sometimes the WORD of God is offensive. But only to those who are out of His will.
"Great peace have they which LOVE THY LAW, and NOTHING shall offend them"
On the thought of pants, one thing came to mind....when the other ladies at church and I have discussed this issue, several times we have heard the statement, "But I'm not wearing men's apparel. My pants are cut for women." That one makes me mad. LOL
