This picture has nothing to do with this blog but is just a nice picture of one of my friends, Mrs. Padgett. Happy Birthday!

and today's contradiction:
6. God says to have children then says not to have children.
We are doing a series of silly contradictions I garnered from an “erudite” secular website. Some are silly, some are serious but I will try to give a sentient answer for each one.
Our basic pre-supposition is following:
- The Bible is God’s Word
- God’s Word is perfect
- Therefore, the Bible is perfect
If your Bible has errors in it you have my sympathy. Mine doesn’t.
In quotations is the actual clip and pasted contradiction from this site. The people who did this site actually believe their inconsistency listing will disprove Christianity.
Supposed contradiction #
6. God says to have children then says not to have children.
- “GE 1:28 God encourages reproduction.”
- “LE 12:1-8 God requires purification rites following childbirth, which, in effect, makes childbirth a sin. (Note: The period for purification following the birth of a daughter is twice that for a son.)”
And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
Leviticus 12:
1 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
2 Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, If a woman have conceived seed, and born a man child: then she shall be unclean seven days; according to the days of the separation for her infirmity shall she be unclean.
3 And in the eighth day the flesh of his foreskin shall be circumcised.
4 And she shall then continue in the blood of her purifying three and thirty days; she shall touch no hallowed thing, nor come into the sanctuary, until the days of her purifying be fulfilled.
5 But if she bear a maid child, then she shall be unclean two weeks, as in her separation: and she shall continue in the blood of her purifying threescore and six days.
6 And when the days of her purifying are fulfilled, for a son, or for a daughter, she shall bring a lamb of the first year for a burnt offering, and a young pigeon, or a turtledove, for a sin offering, unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, unto the priest:
7 Who shall offer it before the LORD, and make an atonement for her; and she shall be cleansed from the issue of her blood. This is the law for her that hath born a male or a female.
8 And if she be not able to bring a lamb, then she shall bring two turtles, or two young pigeons; the one for the burnt offering, and the other for a sin offering: and the priest shall make an atonement for her, and she shall be clean.
This one is difficult to figure out. No, not the supposed incongruity but that someone intelligent enough to tie their own shoes would not understand plain English. There is no contradiction here. I think the problem is a misunderstanding in a few concepts.
- God is setting Israel apart to be a nation of priest.
- Unclean does not mean sinful. That all men (read mankind here please) are sinful is an accepted truth. The Israeli laws of separation of clean and unclean persons reflect the history of creation.
- God created man sinless and gave Genesis 1:28 to a pure race, “Be fruitful, and multiply”.
- Man sinned, fell, and became estranged from a Holy God.
- Salvation through Grace provided reunion with God, but man was still sinful and passed his sinful nature to his offspring.
- To acknowledge the fall of creation this nation of priest were to be clean in everything from food to clothing to reproduction.
- Setting a woman aside after birth for a week of days signifies the universal deep pollution of man’s nature even from the birth.
- There is nothing here to even partially insinuate that childbirth is a sin.
- The inane note in parenthesis about the difference between the time of uncleanness is explained in two ways
2. Circumcision places the male in a special place with God. And the leadership and priesthood of men is shown by this.
Under the current dispensation the difference between men and women is still evident in the male leadership of the church and family. But the male priesthood is over. Now the priesthood of the believer is active. Male, female, Jew, Gentile each has equal access to the Throne through prayer.
