IT AIN'T THERE

The Bible is the best selling book in the world. That must hurt the feelings of the hollyweird leftist. Libs think they know the Bible better than someone who has studied it. There is a reason for this but that is for a later blog.

For Christians we can notice the humorous things that people “know”.

For example:
  • Cleanliness is next to godliness - It is not there anywhere. It may have been the only way for Grandma to get your Dad to wash behind his ears but she made it up. Holiness would be next to godliness.
  • God helps those who help themselves - Also not there. Your helping yourself by getting a job and making your bed is important but God helps his children.
  • Money is the root of all evil - This one is almost in the Bible. The real quote is from 1 Timothy 6:10 “For the love of money is the root of all evil...” - I went into the chamber of commerce once and a lady there was making a large sign, “Money is the root of all evil”. It was for a display. I asked her where that was from. She was surprised and said, “As a pastor you should know this, It’s from the Bible!” She was very disappointed to read the real quote. She tore up the sign.

These are only a few of the silly pseudo quotes people think are in the Bible. If you can think of others leave them on reply.

While discussing your blog, Andy came up with this misquote: God won't give you more than you can handle. This is from I Cor.10:13, which says that God will not tempt us about what we are able, but will with the temptation provide a way of escape. So God's promise is to provide a way of escape not to not give us more than we can handle. I enjoyed your post.Becky

"Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him..." Rev. 3:20. This passage is often used in reference to salvation. However, this verse was written to the church of Laodicea, one of the seven churches in Asia. The church had become so lax in their Christianity and accepting to the ways of the world that they had pushed Christ Jesus out of the church and they didn't even realize it. Paul was referring to Christians when he penned this passage of Scripture, not to unsaved people. Because the Bible is the inspired Word of God, it ought to be carefully examined and studied by His people so as not to be misinterpreted. ~Melanie M.

I meant to say John not Paul.

Spare the rod, spoil the child! I've heard a lot of people say, "I know Im spoiling them, but I just love them too much!" The Bible acctually says that if you spare with the rod, you HATE your kids. The context of Proverbs and the teaching on foolishness shows that good parenting is after the heart, and not just focusing on making a well behaved kid who is easy to get along with. We want them to have wisdom that submits their hearts in obedience, not to us, but to God. Changing the verse that way seriously weakens the consequence.

I think most of those things are people trying to make the scriptures more comfortable to take. Like "Money is the root of all evil". That makes the greedy miser a victim of money.
