GOD IS A CONSERVATIVE - Part one

It seems almost irreverent to speak of the LORD in this fashion. To presume to place GOD in the political spectrum of mere humans seems overly bold. Please allow me to define my terms and possibly preclude lightening strikes from above.

In looking up the words conservative and liberal in nineteen dictionaries I found a plethora of definitions.

Conservative had the following:
  • someone in favor of gun rights
  • against abortion
  • against teaching evolution in public schools
  • resistant to liberal reforms
  • modest or restrained
  • resistant to change
  • opposed to change or innovation
  • tending or disposed to maintain existing views, conditions, or institutions
  • Holds to Judeo-Christian values.
The word liberal gleaned the following:
  • Willing to respect and accept behaviour or opinions different from one’s own
  • Favorable to individual rights and freedoms
  • marked by generosity
  • lacking moral restraint
  • tolerant of change; not bound by authoritarianism, orthodoxy, or tradition
  • Not limited to or by established, traditional, orthodox, or authoritarian attitudes, views, or dogmas
  • free from bigotry
  • tolerant
  • Not strict or rigorous; not confined or restricted

I learned that the dictionaries do not hold the definitive definition for these words today, they hold the opinions of men. Therefore, a closer look may be needed.

It was at this point that I realized one simple blog would not be adequate. As I have figured out that this blog is mostly for my own pleasure I would take more time and space to do this right.

It does get confusing as in some cases the modern conservative acts more like dictionary liberal and the modern liberal may act like the dictionary conservative.

Something to think about while I figure this out.
  1. Ted Kennedy (an arch liberal, very left leaning senator) was asked to speak at a conservative University (Falwell’s I think). He was treated with respect and allowed to spew his venomous hatred of conservative values. He was applauded and all the students and faculty present treated him with deference.
  2. ANY conservative politician, radio personality, writer, or preacher who speaks at the peoples republic of Berkley (The University of California at Berkley) has to hire security and seldom to never gets to finish a paragraph of a speech because the teachers and students shout profanity and slogans from the audience. Sometimes they rush the stage and sometimes speakers have had to flee for their life.
The conclusion I can see is the conservatives were more tolerant in their treatment of Kennedy than the liberals in Berzerkley and the liberals in Berzerkley were more intolerant than the “Fundamentalist” at that Christian College.

HTOITA hopefully
