DEFINITION OF IRONY

This picture has nothing to do with the blog. At Patricks Point Park near Trinidad there are signs encouraging campers to not pick mushrooms. I took this picture and wondered if anyone knew if it was poisonous or not.

The first word that needs defining

Irony - two different dictionaries:
1. incongruity between what might be expected and what actually occurs -
2. an outcome of events contrary to what was, or might have been, expected. -

Irony is when the expected outcome is reversed. You think something will happen and the opposite happens.

A few examples:

* Sex education was supposed to lower teen pregnancy and STDs. The opposite has occurred. Teens are taught that sex before marriage is good and normal; they are taught how to perform with illustrations and pictures. They are told that terminating pregnancy is easy and safe (both lies) and private. The results are that teen pregnancy and STDs have skyrocketed. Isn’t that ironic?
* The more sexual experience you have the better your marriage will be. The vast majority of people move in together before they consider marriage, if they do. This attitude was supposed to make marriages stable as "you wouldn’t buy shoes without trying them on would you?" Over 50% of marriages end in divorce. Isn’t that ironic?
* New teaching methods have improved so that kids can think through problems rather than just learn by rote. They will pick up reading and math and history later. The results are that kids cannot read well and hate doing it. They also have the attitude that history is useless and math is for machines. Isn’t that ironic?

By the way for real Christians none of the above results were ironic. We feel that the above type of thinking falls into another word definition, stupidity.
1. Teaching biology to teens is good and that is all they need to know. Waking the sexual monster before marriage is a mistake. Let it sleep until nuptials then wake it up and feed it joyfully and regularly and watch it grow. nuff said
2. The more sexual experience you have before marriage the greater chance of you losing your marriage. About the shoe thing. When God makes shoes you won’t need to try them on and when K-mart makes women that argument may have validity. Two people in love trying to please each other will figure it out and be compatible.
3. Teaching facts in an interesting way is up to the teacher. Teachers with a liberal agenda fail in their basic job.
