THE SECOND AMENDMENT

This picture has nothing to do with this blog. My dog who is very much my dog is biased in a gender way. Susan is doing the family books and there is some stress involved. Whenever there is stress Lasha ALWAYS gets in my wife’s lap or gets between us and looks at me with a "what did you do this time" look; even when I am innocent, which I am normally. It's just not fair.

THE SECOND AMENDMENT

The Second Amendment says: A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

There is so much hysteria over this that the truth has gotten lost. The extreme left tells us that this amendment gives the State the right to have a National Guard. Does it?

The rest of the Amendments are for the rights of the individual. If this is for the right of the State then it would be the exception. The controversy among honest people is the phrase "A well regulated Militia".

In the terms of the day, 1776. Well regulated did not mean strictly controlled as it does today. It meant that the people in the militia were well practiced with effective arms. To ensure that the people knew how to use the arms of war the Government could not tell "THE PEOPLE" they could not possess and CARRY ARMS.

A comparable amendment could be written about books: "A well-schooled electorate, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and read Books, shall not be infringed." This would never mean that only the Government could have libraries.

The issue falls down to the "right of the people". It is an individual right. Now we only have to deal with the outright lies from the extreme left.

• Children should be afraid of guns
  
• Removal of all guns would make life safer for all people
  

Guns can be dangerous, as can knives, your car, broken glass, and baseball bats. They must be handled carefully.

In a society where guns are removed there are only two types of people who are armed, police and criminals. Criminals are not going to turn in any guns and by definition they are law breakers. In every nation where guns have been confiscated, England, Australia, Canada to name three crime has risen dramatically. Robbery, rape and home invasion are much more common in those countries. The left lies about the US being the most violent country in the world. It is not.

In the United States individual States that allow decent citizens to carry guns have lower crime rates. Cities that have the toughest gun laws are Washington DC, and New York. Both of them have horrible crime rates.

People should be taught about guns. How to use them safely and how to handle them safely should be taught in school.

If gun laws stopped crime why don't we just make crime illegal. Criminals carry guns and to think they would not carry guns because they were banned is as silly as the pervious sentence.
