FREEDOM OF RELIGION

This picture has nothing to do with this blog. I thought I would continue with the theme of trying to irritate the PETA people. Sooner or later it will be illegal to do that.

FREEDOM OF FAITH

Article [I.]
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Freedom of speech is an American treasure. The press, politicians and the entertainment industry often do strange things and claim First Amendment rights. Actually the first right is not listed as freedom of speech but freedom of religion. The extreme left in America has used this simple sentence to ban Bibles in classrooms, forbid even the mention of Christ, suspend students for sharing their faith, remove the words “Under God” from the pledge and many other equally silly things. They say it means freedom from religion. They are wrong.

The amendment is a restriction upon Congress and not upon the individual. In the day it was written several different churches were fighting to become the official church of the new country. In England it is the Anglican Church, in France it is Catholic Church, In Germany it is the Lutheran Church. Tax money has been set aide to support the official government sanctioned religious organization. Actually it was the Baptist churches that lobbied and fought for "no official church". The founders of our country did not want the problems of an official church so they made it a law that congress could not proclaim one.

By prohibiting the influence of the Bible the ALCU and their like have done exactly the opposite of what was intended. The government has zero authority over the doctrine and practice of the church. It is we the church that has the right to preach and teach, even on public property. It is the government that must restrict themselves. It is the government that must face the fact that they are not all powerful.

For Christians it boils down to this; Jesus is Lord, not Caesar.
